Michelle W. Burns

Michelle is the founding member of Burns Law LLC. Michelle W. Burns is a graduate of Washburn University and Washburn School of Law. She joined Property Law Firm, LLC as an associate in 2003. Michelle was made a member of Property Law Firm in 2009. In 2016, Michelle earned a Master of Science in Entrepreneurial Real Estate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Michelle continued to practice with Property Law Firm, LLC carrying on her practice of law with Burns Law, LLC in 2022.

Michelle's practice primarily focuses on real estate litigation and transactions, eminent domain law, and business litigation. Michelle has extensive experience in counseling clients on land use and zoning issues, business and contract disputes, landlord/tenant law, insurance coverage matters, home/condo association formation and disputes, commercial and residential property tax appeals, as well as domestic relations cases.

Michelle attended Washburn University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2000. She also attended Washburn School of Law where she served as Research Editor of the Washburn Law Journal. She graduated from law school in 2003. Her Juris Doctorate was awarded Dean's Honors. During law school, Michelle worked as a research assistant for Professor Ali Khan. Michelle researched international law issues and edited several chapters of Professor Khan's book, A Theory of University Democracy: Beyond the End of History. Michelle also worked in the family law section of the Washburn Law Clinic during her third year of law school representing clients in divorce, paternity, and adoption cases. Also, during law school, she took many property classes including real estate transactions, oil and gas, and real property.

Michelle practices throughout Kansas and Missouri. When Michelle is not representing clients, she can be found spending time with her husband, Brad, two sons, daughter, three dogs, and extended friends and family.
